The Life of Mr. Zollia Rawles, Sr., 92
Zollia Rawles, Sr. was born on November 24, 1924 to the late Matt Whitaker and Katie Dudley Rawles in the Occoneechee Township of Jackson, North Carolina. He departed this earthly life on December 28, 2016 in Rich Square Manor, Rich Square, North Carolina.
Mr. Rawles was educated in Northampton County Public School System. He was the last surviving member of the Matt Rawles household. His parents and all of his siblings preceded him in death : Angus Rawles, Matt Rawles, Jr., Collins Rawles, Clarence Rawles, Diana Gary, Lilly Lester Rawles and Leah Esther Ramsey.
He was United In Holy Matrimony to the late Alee Ricks Rawles who preceded him in death. He is survived by his children: Zollia Jr., David (and wife Pamela), William Sweat, Collins (and wife Christina), Arlean Morris (and husband Richard), Alphill (and wife Jennifer), Carson (and wife Johnnie), Sheila (and husband Johny), Louis (and wife Joyce), Ella Rawles, James (and wife Sandra), Carl (and wife Stephna), Ronald (and wife Rocky) and Melvin (and wife Sylvia). In addition to his biological children, they raised a granddaughter: LaXondra Parker and a great granddaughter: Tamera Parker.
At an early age Zollia joined the Roanoke Chapel Baptist Church in Jackson, NC. He joined New Jerusalem and later joined St. Mary's Apostolic Faith Church of Giving Grace, Inc., where he remained a faithful member until his health began to fail. He worked in different capacities in the church and was a devoted and faithful member. He took great pride in the many services he performed for the church. He loved his church and church family. He did not mind sharing with others about how God had changed his life. One of Zollia's favorite scriptures was St. John 8:32 " And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."
Zollia was a retired welder. He had various occupations over the years to include sharecropping, pulpwood and construction. In 1969, Zollia enrolled in the RCA-CADA Training program and obtained his Certificate as a Certified Welder. After which, he gained employment at the Machine Shop in Emporia. VA and Howell Steel Company, Inc. in Weldon, NC. Later during his retirement years he rejoined the workforce as a part time custodian at Northampton County High School-West, Gaston, NC.
Left to cherish His Memories, legacy and love are: His Children, Grandchildren, Great-Grandchildren, Great-Great-Grandchildren, A Sister-In-Law: Ann Rawles, Emporia, VA and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, church family and friends. Zollia loved all of his children and taught them to love each other.
The funeral cortege will line up from Mr. Rawles's homeplace, 2676 Tower Road, Margettesville, NC at 11:15 AM on Sat.
