The Life of Mr. Willie Speed, 83
Mr. Willie Speed, 83 of Weldon but formerly of Halifax, NC,
and the beloved husband of Dorthy Daniels-Speed of 64-years-expired Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at Halifax Regional Medical Center, Roanoke Rapids, NC.
Willie was born December 10, 1929 in Enfield, NC to the late Joe and Mable Whitaker-Speed.
Those preceded him in death are: his parents: Joe and Mable Speed, his sons: Wendell and Charles Speed, his brother: Joe Speed, his sisters: Maggie Lewis and Ida Barnes.
Willie was raised on a farm. Throughout his years-Mr. Speed continued to farm until he found a passion for construction work.
He was a well-known and respected man, who always had a funny joke or two to tell anyone he came in contact with. He enjoyed spending time with his wife whom he called "Dot", like no other could. Willie loved his big family.
He leaves to cherish his memories: his wife: Dorothy Daniels-Speed of the home, two sons: Earl Speed and wife Maggie of Weldon, NC and Willie Speed, Jr. of Weldon, NC; one loving daughter: Mary S. Wood and hustand Roy of Alexandria, VA; Thirteen Grandchildren: May Robinson and husband Terrence of Washington, DC, Angela Speed and husband James of Woodbridge, VA; Cara Wood of Alexandria, VA, Belinda Speed and husband Jack of Roanoke Rapids, NC, Lisa Speed Roanoke Rapids, NC, Regina Pugh and husband of Roanoke Rapids, NC, Lendell Speed of Cincinnati, OH, Darrick Ford of Blackwood, NJ, Deetris Ford of Windsor Mills, MD, Betty Jean Allen of Roanoke Rapids, NC, Kendall Pitts of Enfield, NC, William Allen of Enfield, NC, and Wilson Green of Weldon, NC; 27-Great Grandchildren; one sister: Loretha Bandy of Hampton, VA; seven nieces, two nephews and two Daughters-In-Law: Betty Jean Speed and Ann Speedof Cincinnati, OH and a host of family and friends.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, March 11, 2013, 1:00 pm at Smith Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, Halifax, NC. Rev. Albert Clark will officiate.
Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Weldon, NC.
A private immediate family viewing will be held Sunday, March 10, 2013 at 12:30 pm at the funeral parlor. There will be a public viewing also from 1 to 7 pm.
