The Life of Dr. Victor Francis Dickens, MD, 59
Dr. Victor F. Dickens, age 59, passed away at Odyssey Hospice in Decatur, GA on March 3, 2012. He was born June 18, 1952 in Roanoke Rapids, NC to Mrs. Isabelle H. Dickens and the late Mr. Thomas E. Dickens, Sr. He was baptized into the service of the Lord at St. Matthew A.M.E. Church, Weldon, NC.
Dr. Dickens was a graduate of Gumberry High School, Gumberry, NC and Kenyon College, Gambier, OH. He received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1978. After completing residency training in Youngstown, OH, he practiced family medicine and later emergency medicine in Ohio and Georgia for more than two decades. Several years ago, he developed health challenges that he fought bravely until his demise.
He was as devoted to his family and friends as he was to his profession, and will be remembered as a wise and caring person to the many who loved him. He truly had a gifted mind, and will be recalled for his love of electronics and deep sea fishing, as well as for his courage in adversity. He lived as he believed, and he demonstrated his strong faith in Jesus Christ through his tireless service to others.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years: Judith Dickens of the home, whose selflessness throughout his later years will always be appreciated; his daughter: Adrienne Dickens, also of the home; two granddaughters: Anastasia Dickens and Jasmine McCraney both of the home; his mother: Mrs. Isabelle H. Dickens, Garysburg, NC; one brother: Thomas E. Dickens, Jr, Garysburg, NC; two sisters: Dr. Lillian Riddick and husband Frank, Gaithersburg, MD and Dr. Jeanne Dickens, Brownsburg, IN; a brother-In-Law: Melvin Williams, Newark, NJ; an uncle: Alexander Williams, Oxford, NC; four aunts: Lillian Miller, Oxford, NC, Nellie Hicks, Oxford, NC, Doretha Dickens, Camden, NJ, and Lenora Taylor, Philadelphia, PA; a nephew: Terrence Riddick, Gaithersburg, MD; one niece: Andrea Riddick, Gaithersburg, MD; and many cousins, other relatives, friends.
Graveside Services for Dr. Victor F. Dickens, will be held Sunday, March 25, 2012, at 3:00 pm in Crestview Memorial Cemetery, Smith Church Rd., Roanoke Rapids, NC. Officiating ministers will be: Rev., Dr. Carroll Dickens and Rev. Brandon McAfee.
A repast will follow at the Roanoke River Community Center, 10th Street, Roanoke Rapids, NC.
There will be an immediate family viewing at Coleman Funeral Home, Sat. March 24, 2012 prior to a public viewing from 2 to 6 pm at Boone Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, Barrows Mill Road, Jackson, NC.
