The Life of Sam "June" Bennett, Jr., 79

Mr. Sam Bennett, Jr., 79 of Garysburg,NC, expired Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at Halifax Regional Medical Center, Roanoke Rapids, NC.

Sam Bennett, Jr. was born November 18, 1936 to Ida Hines Bennett and Sam Bennett, Sr. in Halifax, NC. June as he was affectionately known was introduced to Jesus Christ very early in life.

Early in life, he was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church, where he served until he relocated his family to New Jersey. While in New Jersey,  he worshiped at Saint Mark's Baptist Church, Newark, NJ.  Moving back to North Carolina, he joined Shearin Chapel Baptist Church, where he became Deacon Sam. His final worship home was Community Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of his Brother-In-Law, Rev. Raymond Bradley, Sr.

June battled his illness for many years, but he always enjoyed working on cars, fishing and being with his family. June touched the lives of so many with his knowledge of cars, his laughs and his caring ways.

One of his great enjoyments in life was spending time with his Grandchildren and his Great-Grandchildren. Grandson: Deryck Bennett, and his Granddaughters: Tami Stokes and his best friend/youngest Granddaughter/his "Pooh Pooh" Triana Phillips. His Great Grandson/assistant outdoors-man/his "Brownie" Saquan Manley. He could talk about these kids all day long without getting tired.

June was preceded in death by his parents: Ida Hines Bennett and Sam Bennett, Sr., all of his Sisters and Brothers, his Daughter: Sandra Bennett Marshall, and his Grandson: Christopher Bennett.

Left to cherish his memories are His Wife: Lula Bradley-Bennett of the home; His Two Daughters: Lori Bennett-Arrington and husband Cedric of Halifax, NC and Audrea Bennett of Garysburg, NC; Two Granddaughters: Tami K. Stokes and Triana Phillips both of Garysburg, NC; One Grandson: Deryck D. Bennett of the home.  He had several children that he called his own: Two Adopted Daughters: Sandra K. Lee of Cary, NC and Shawanda Harding of Gaston, NC; One Adopted Son: Tony Cooke of Louisburg, NC, Two Adopted Grandchildren: Brittany High and Jamarus Rooks both of Garysburg, NC;  June loved all of his nieces and nephews and we believe all of you knew his to be true, but he always held a special place in his heart for Luke Grand of Newark, NJ and Kenya (His Keyon) Grant of Roanoke Rapids, NC. He often made comments about how they felt like his own children because they were always with him. His buddies: Steve Barkeley of Garysburg, NC and Cedric Arrington of Halifax, NC.

There will be a private family viewing Thursday, January 28, 2016 at 12:30 PM at the funeral parlor with a public viewing from 1 to 6 PM.
