Obituary

The Life of Mr. Robert E. L. Coleman, 79

"May the work He's done and the life He's lived speak for Him..."
The beautiful and inspiring life of Robert E. L. Coleman, age 79 came to a peaceful close on Sunday, August 23, 2015 in the serenity of his home in Roanoke Rapids, NC.

Affectionately known as "Shirlee", "Bob", and "Trick". He was one of nine children born to the late Robert Coleman, Sr. and Virginia Williams-Coleman on February 13, 1936 in Northampton County, NC.

He was a member of Chapel Grove Baptist Church, Garysburg, NC, where he faithfully walked to Sunday School and church with his parents, who instilled christian values in all of their children.

In 1954 he enlisted in the Army of the United Stated, where he went to Ft. Bennings, GA, Raleigh, NC and later to Ft. Lee, VA. He was a Weapons Infantry Man, went to Quartermaster School, received a Good Conduct Medal and was a Impregnation Specialist and received a Honorable Discharged.

He was employed with Halifax Paper Mill, a self employed entrepreneur of Coleman's Trucking Company and later years retired from Meyers Industrial/Patch Rubber Company, Weldon, NC.

"Shirlee", had a loving passion for all people and animals especially his love for "Pepper", "Ginger", and "Cinnamon", his dogs. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and painting, and free grass cutting. He was also a proclaim auto mechanic...(who often disassemble with 10-parts and reassemble with 5-parts) And in his opinion...that was all required. Robert loved tools including everyone else's LOL.

His favorite pass time or enjoyment was his undying desire and determination to "HELP" others.

Roberts work ethics transcended to all of his siblings by helping them to further their education, and was very instructmental in the establishment of Coleman Funeral Home...even transcending through his nieces, nephews and grandchildren.

He was United In Holy Matrimony to the lovely Delores Cane and God blessed their union with four children.

Treasured memories will remain with his loving wife: Delores Cane-Coleman of the home;  son: Darrell Coleman of the home; Three Daughters: Travie "Gigi" Coleman also of the home, Kimberly "Kimjo" Freeman and husband Christopher of Greensboro, NC and Shirley Coleman of Burlington, NC; Two Grandchildren: Tyler Haith and Erica Freeman; A godson: Gerrod Bridgers; Two Siblings that preceded him in death: Andrew Lee Coleman and Ella Mae Coleman; his surviving siblings are: Helen Coleman-Washington and husband James of Garysburg, NC, Julia Perkins of Maryland, Gracie Irving of Greensboro, NC, Luvenia Coleman of Hallendale, FL, Essie Dunham and husband Robert of Madison, WI and James Coleman and wife Melinda of Garysburg, NC; Two Sisters-In-Law: Gloria Edwards and Sophia Harrison both of Roanoke Rapids, NC; many, many nieces, nephews, cousins and countless friends.

Funeral Services for Mr. Robert Edward Lee Coleman will be held Saturday, August 29, 2015, 1:00 In The Afternoon at First Baptist Church, Hwy 158, Roanoke Rapids, NC. Pastor Michael E. Simmons will deliver the Eulogy. Burial will follow in Crestview Memorial Cemetery, Smith Church Road, Roanoke Rapids, NC.

His remains will repose in church one hour prior to the service.

There will be a private immediate family viewing at the funeral parlor Friday, August 28, 2015 at 12:30 PM. A public viewing will be held from 1 to 6 PM.

Floral Attendants will be nieces and cousins.
Pall Bearers are Royce L. Harrison, R. Lee Harrison, Reggie L. Ewards, Quentin T. Scott, Keith Dantzler and Milton Irving.
