The Life of Ms. N. Elizabeth "Dute" Gatling, 67
On July 17, 2011, around 5:50 pm our Heavenly Father dispatched His angels to Calvary Hospice Hospital, Brooklyn, NY on a mission to pick from this earthly garden, a sweet and beautiful flower, Sister N. Elizabeth Gatling, also known by her family as "Dute."
Born May 5, 1944 in Jackson, NC . Sister Gatling was the fourth child of 8-children reared by her loving Christian parents, the late James Thomas "Lattie and Nannie Anthony Gay Gatling. She confessed her faith to Christ at an early age and joined Piney Grove Baptist Church, Jackson, NC where she sang in the choir, ushered, and was secretary of Sunday School for many years.
Her education was with the Northampton County Schools (Eastside Elem., Coates Elem., and Gumberry High). She later relocated to Brooklyn, NY where she acquired her high school diploma. She received a nurse assistant certification in NY, completed computer classes and worked for J.P. Morgan Chase Bank for the past 28-years; when her health begin to fail October 2009.
She leaves to cherish her sweet memories: three sisters: Fannie G. Long, Raleigh, NC, Lois G. Booker and husband Mac, Garysburg, NC and Frances G. Futrell, Fayetteville, NC.; two brothers: Henry C. Gatling and wife Helen, Gaston, NC and Thomas Gatling, Newport News, VA; There were two other brothers-the late James M. Gatling and one still birth. Her trusted friend for many years Dorothy Harris fromerly of Jackson, NC, 9-nieces, 8-nephews, one preceded her in death, grand nieces, nephews, other In-laws, relatives and friends.
She was loved greatly by her family and friends. We will miss her...
There will be a private viewing Saturday, July 23, 2011 at 12:30 pm and a public viewing Saturday, July 23, 2011 from 1 to 7 pm at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 24, 2011, 2:30 pm at Coleman Funeral Home Chapel, 776 Hwy 301 N., Garysburg, NC. Rev. Timothy Edwards will be officiating. Burial will follow in the Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, Jackson, NC.
