Obituary

The Life of Minister Alverta Knight, 81

"I have fought a good fight,
I have finished my course,
I have kept the faith."

A devoted Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, Minister Alverta Knight, 81 was born November 19, 1929 in Halifax County, NC to the late Betty P. Harvey and the late James Edmonds and peacefully expired to the land where joy and love is everywhere on Sunday, May 1, 2011 in her residence at 112 Carlos Lane, Garysburg, NC.

Minister Knight received her education from the Halifax County Public School System. Later in life, she met and was United In Holy Matrimony to the late Clyde Samuel Knight in 1947 and to this union nine children were born.

Around the age of 31, Minister Knight received Christ as her personal Savior and was renewed a new life in Christ for the redemption of her soul to be animously justified by faith. When she received this new birth in her soul like the bible say! She got saved, sanctified and Holy Ghost filled under the leadership of the late Minister Virginia Bennett and the late Mother Lillie Perry-Williams.

Minister Alverta Knight was a faithful member of New Jerusalem Holiness Church, where she was one of the late Mother Lillie Williams original saints.

She was a retiree of 35-years of employment for Mr. and Mrs. Williams and Margaret Johnston of Weldon, NC. She was a life long mother to the Johnston Children and Family.

She is proceded in death by her husband, clyde: her daughter, Laura; her grandsons, Derrick and Eric; her mother, Betty; her sister, Mary; and brother; Garland and Wardell.

She lives today and forever in the lives of her children: Clyde Knight, New York, Julia Knight, New York, Lois Knight-Davis and husband Herbie of Garysburg, Juanita Knight-Smith and husband Clarence of Garysburg, NC Otis Knight of the home, David Knight and wife Joan of Garysburg, NC, Charles Knight of Florida, and Teresa Knight-Shearin and husband Andrew of Garysburg, NC; nineteen grandchildren; twenty-three great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; her sisters: Lillie Norfleet of Brooklyn, NY, and Lessie Harvey of Gaston, NC, Francis Love and Anna Freeman both of Roanoke Rapids, NC; and many many nieces, nephews, other relatives, in-laws, cousins, friends and church family.

There will be a private viewing at 12:30 at the funeral home with a public viewing from 1 to 7 pm at the funeral home.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, May 7, 2011 at 11 am at the General Assembly of The Apostolic Faith of Giving Grace, Garysburg, NC. Bishop Genie Perry will be officiating with Bishop Paul C. Jones Assisting.

Burial will follow in the Lily Chapel Holiness Church Cemetery, Garysburg, NC.
