The Life of Minister Ruby Artis Gary, 72

It was on the night of Wednesday, December 21, 2016, that the death angel came to prepare Missionary Ruby Artis Gary, 72 in Vidant Health Hospice Center, Greenville, North Carolina to get her heavenly crown. She was a residence of Northampton County, North Carolina.

She was born on January 12, 1944 in Southampton County in Drewryville, Virginia to the late Amos and Mary Tennessee-Artis. She was the oldest daughter of nine children.

At an early age, Ruby moved to New York and started her family. She joined St. Paul Apostolic Faith Church, Staten Island, New York. Ruby was a faithful member and served her duty well with the youth as the Youth Program leader.

Years later, Minister Gary moved to Emporia to care for her father. She met and married James Gary and joined New Jerusalem Holiness Church, Garysburg, North Carolina. Her passion for working with children continued. She was the program director on third Sunday's choir director and was the First Lady at St. Mary's Holiness Church in Jackson, North Carolina.

Minister Ruby A. Gary has touched many lives in a positive and memorable way. She was known for her famous fried chicken (among many dishes), her smile, her rosey cheeks and for being out-spoken.

She has worked several places all her life to support her family. Dedicated, consistent, dependable even when she was sick, out of breath, she pushed herself to work until the end.

Minister Ruby A. Gary was a devoted, faithful, loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, cousin grandmother and friend.

She leaves to cherish her memories; a beloved husband: Pastor James E. Gary; Two Daughters: Janetta Chambliss and Erica Chambliss; One living Son: Christopher Chambliss and wife Debra, one son that proceded her in death: Gregory Chambliss, a son she raised Alvin Chambliss and a Step-Daughter: Carolyn Gary. Survivors also include: Four Brothers: Elder Harry Artis and wife Chris, Bishop Randolph Artis and wife Barbara Jean, Elder Roy Artis and wife Gracie (deceased) and Mr. Lewis Prince and wife Patrice; Two Sisters: Doreatha Avens and husband James (deceased) and Miss Jean Artis; Two Brothers preceded her in death: Amos Artis , Jr. and Raymond Artis; Ten grandchildren which includes her "Fella" (Erin) and one that preceded her in death Erica Chambliss (Grandma Baby), Six Great-Grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews cousins and church family; A Very Special Friend/Sister Minister Sarah N. Turner, a faithful friend ; Sister Rocky Rawles and a good friend Minister Josephine Harris.

There will be private viewing for immediate Family ONLY Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at 12:30 PM at the funeral parlor, followed by a public viewing from 1 to 6 PM.
