The Life of Miss Melody "Mel" Sledge, 42
Miss Melody Lavonne Sledge, daughter of the late Lucy Jarrell Sledge Powell and David Sledge, was born June 16, 1971 in Roanoke Rapids, NC.
She received her education through the public schools of Halifax County, NC and graduated from Northwest High School, Littleton, NC in the Class of 1989.
At an early age she confessed faith in Christ and joined Quankey Baptist Church, Roanoke Rapids, NC under the leadership of the late Rev. R. H. Kidd and remained a member until her demise.
She worked in different capacities and her employment included working at Boar's Head Provisions, Jarrett, VA and Perdue Chicken, Emporia, VA.
Peacefully, Melody departed this life on Monday, January 6, 2014 in the serenity of her home, Lincoln Heights, Roanoke Rapids, NC.
Melody enjoyed helping members of her commnunity. She also was very caring and giving.
She was preceded in death by her mother: Lucy Jarrell Sledge-Powell; her maternal grandparents: Richard & Leah Jarrell and her paternal grandparents: Frank & Myrtle Sledge.
Melody leaves to cherish her loving memories; her son: Semaj Sledge of Roanoke Rapids, NC; three grandchildren: Semaj High, Se'Von Williams Sledge and Kalani Sledge all of Roanoke Rapids, NC; one sister: Stephanie Sledge of Roanoke Rapids, NC; two half brothers: David Sledge Jr. and Marcus Sledge both of Roanoke Rapids, NC; two adopted brothers: Lindale Burgess and William Harris and wife Anakein all of Roanoke Rapids, NC; a niece: Tonomii Evans and husband Semaj of Roanoke Rapids, NC; a devoted friend and companion: Julia Teresa Williams of the home; two great nephews: Marsay Edwards and Ja-Mique Edwards; nine aunts: Dr. Helen N. Rosser and husband Marvin, Laura Jarrell, Marcella Perry and husband Carlton, Patricia Lee, Mamie Wade and husband Marcel, Marie Squire and husband William, Dr. Carrie Tunning, Phyllis Lennon and husband Thomas and Iona Jeanette Lee and husband Kenneth.
Melody has now joined her mother Lucy Jarrell Sledge-Powell, her maternal and paternal grandparents...May you all rest in peace and have a blessed reunion.

Funeral Arrangements for Miss Melody "Mel" Sledge, 42, of 107 Luke Street, Roanoke Rapids, NC, will be held Saturday, January 11, 2014 at 2:00 PM at First Baptist Church, Hwy 158, Roanoke Rapids, NC, where Rev. Michael Simmons is Pastor. Rev. John Rooks, Pastor of Fidelity Baptist Church, Littleton, NC, will deliver the Eulogy.
Burial will follow in Crestview Memorial Cemetery, Roanoke Rapids, NC where her mother rests.
There will be a private immediate family ONLY viewing Friday, January 10, 2014 at 4:00 to 5:00 PM at the funeral parlor. A public viewing will follow from 5:00 to 9:00 PM in the chapel.
Mel is resting in the comfort of Coleman Funeral Home & Staff...Because WE Care...
