The Life of Mary Perkins-Kee

Mary P. Kee of Garysburg, NC, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt and friend entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at 8:26 p.m. at Halifax Regional Medical Center in Roanoke Rapids, NC.
On September 11, 1932 an angel, Mary Perkins was born to the late Plimber and Vater Perkins in Halifax County, NC. She was one of 26 children. She was a former member of Springfield Baptist Church and later moved her membership to St. John Baptist Church in Garysburg, NC where she remained a faithful member until her passing.

She attended the Halifax County Public Schools. Mary was known for her strong work ethic and was dedicated to helping others. She worked for Weldon Veneer Company until they closed, then she worked for JP Stevens for a short while. She also worked for the Garysburg Elementary School as a Food Technician. She worked for Carol Apparel as a sewing instructor. Her most recent job was with Coleman Funeral Home where she served as Lady Attendant Supervisor until her demise.
She was married to James Warren Kee, Sr. for 53 years. This union was blessed with two children. She was preceded in death by 21 siblings.

She leaves to cherish her memories: a devoted husband, James Warren Kee, Sr. of the home; one daughter, Ella Spratley and husband Claude of Newport News VA.; one son, James Warren Kee, Jr. and wife Talma of Greensboro, NC; one sister, Mae Boney of Emporia, VA; brothers: Roy Perkins and wife, Elaine, James Perkins, Otis Perkins, all of Emporia , VA and Tony Perkins of Coward, SC. Six grandchildren, Kim Jacobs and husband Frank, Javon Jackson and Royal Mitchell, all of Charlotte, NC, Felicia Spratley and husband, Brehon, James Edwards both of Richmond, VA, Talneisha Kee of Greensboro, NC . Nine great-grandchilden: Frankie, Ivan, Gabriel, Jeremiah, Jayla, Janai,Suniah, Jahzara, and Cameron. Eight sisters-inlaw: Beatrice Vick, Helen Faye Alston, and husband James, Christine Moody and husband Jance, Evonna Moody and husband David, Jean Kee, Florence Perkins, Pat Perkins and Lenora Perkins. One brother-in-law, Rufus Kee. A host of nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends. She was also like a mother to Milton Brinson, Junie Solomon, Ellis C. McGee and the late Alexnder Alston,Jr. She also loved her very special friends and would not want anyone omitted by naming them.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 1, 2011 at 1:00 pm, Roanoke Salem Missionary Baptist Church, Garysburg, NC. Her Pastor Rev. Daryl Roselle of St. John Missionary Baptist Church will deliver the Eulogy. Burial will follow in St. John Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, Garysburg, NC.

A viewing will be held Friday, December 31, 2010 at Coleman Funeral Home from 3 to 7 pm.
