It was on Sunday, September 9, 2018 around 5:01 AM, that the angel of death called Margaret B. Mercer, 91 of Garysburg, NC, to rest in Halifax Regional Medical Center, Roanoke Rapids, NC.
Born Margaret Burnett, she was the daughter of the late Easter Johnson Burnett and Odell E. Burnett in Elizabeth City, NC.
She was well liked by the community and outspoken. Took daily walks and had her morning orange juice. She loved life and was a warrior and fighter down to the end of her life at the age of 91. Had much love for her family and was a good housewife. She preached her sermons. Was protective of her family. She was strict and kept her bible by her side.
Margaret leaves to cherish her fond memories: Her Children: Elder Joseph Mercer and Ronnie Alexander Mercer both of the home; Gloria Jean Lister and husband Larry, Sr. and their son-Larry, Dr. Johnnie Willie Mercer, Sr. and wife Glenda and their children-Johnnie, Jr., and Francine; a Son-In-Law: the late Caris Whitehurst, III, a first cousin: Virginia Etheridge, special cousin: Dorothy Robertson and husband James; a Close friend of the family: Edna Lucille Hughes; friends of the family: Apostle James Brown and Bishop Curtis Ransom; she is preceded in death by her husband: Alexander Mercer; her daughter: Minister Catherine Marie Mercer Whitehurst; a nephew: Izon Whitehurst (deceased); other relatives and friends.
