The Life of Missionary Margaret "Peggy" Florine Sledge, 72

Missionary Margaret" Peggy" Florine Sledge , 72, resident of the Lincoln Heights Community, Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina ascended to heaven on the early morning of Sunday, June 8, 2014 in her home.

THE EARLY YEARS

Margaret, affectionately known as "Peggy", was born on July 30, 1941. She was the middle daughter of the late John Henry Sledge and Jennie Jones Sledge of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina. She attended Halifax County Schools where she graduated from John Armstrong Chaloner High School in 1959. Peggy enjoyed spending time with her classmates, community, and friends. Peggy had a big heart and lots of love. She loved to fellowship, do hair, sing, sew, and eat. She had many jobs including working at the Trailways Bus Station until she became employed at West Point Stevens. She retired from West Point Stevens after working for over 27 years.

THE CHURCH

Missionary Sledge came to Christ through the faithful leadership of former Pastor The Late Elder Arthur Graham and First Lady The Late Mother Graham, and was a devoted member of Community Church of Christ #2 until the end. In the church, Missionary Sledge was a standout soloist, prolific speech writer, and held the office of Choir Vice-President. She always had a song in her soul and a motivational testimony. A bible scholar, she had a Word for everyone she met. As a dedicated Christian, she shared her gifts of ministry, music, and prominent grace.

THE FAMILY

She leaves to cherish her memories; five children: Keith Sledge and wife Eartie of Roanoke Rapids, NC, Tanice Alston and husband Henry of Roanoke Rapids, NC, Nikki Sledge and wife Jacky of Franklin, VA, Tyrl Sledge and wife Tracy of Raleigh, NC; and Zyrl Sledge of Roanoke Rapids, NC; Seventeen Grandchildren: Shunikka, Damiyon, Tanisha, Trevor, Khyre, Semaj, Sharkilla, Racques, Keivoshia, Chakeira, Justice, Sameylah, Eani, Nuri, Tonomii, Raven, Da'Meyl; One faithful Sister: Ellen Ann Rawls of Emporia, VA and One Special Sister: Ella Lee Baker of the home; One brother-in-law: William (Billy) Baker of Richmond, VA; Two Adopted Sisters: Marie Leonard of Roanoke Rapids, NC and Teresa Gary of Franklin, VA; Two Nephews: William Baker, Sr. and wife Nicole & Trevii Baker; One niece: Sylvia Robinson and husband William; Twelve Great-Grandchildren; A caring great-nephew: Keon Baker of Roanoke Rapids, NC; Three sisters-of-the-heart; Lina Jones, Alicetine Hardy, and Nancy Harris all of Roanoke Rapids, NC; and additional great-nieces, great-nephews, and a host of other relatives and special friends. She was preceded in death by her parents: John Henry and Jennie; her brother-in-law: Collin Rawls and a niece; Terris Sledge.

The Celebration of Life for Mother Peggy will be held Saturday, June 14, 2014-1:00 PM in the afternoon at Community Church of Christ #2, Hwy 48 S., Roanoke Rapids, NC, where the Elder Tyrone Squire is Pastor and will deliver the Eulogy.

Burial will follow in the Crestview Memorial Cemetery, Roanoke Rapids, NC.

There will be private immediate family viewing Friday, June 13, 2014 at 12:30 PM at the funeral parlor. A public viewing will be from 1 to 6 PM.
