The Life of Mother Lucille Hughes, 72

There will be a private viewing Friday, October 19, 2018, 12:30 PM at the funeral parlor
for immediate FAMIY ONLY.

Mother Hughes will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the funeral.

Mother Edna Lucille Gary came from very humble beginnings, born on December 19, 1945 to the late Katie Gary in the little town of Garysburg, NC. Peacefully, Lucille left her earthly home on Tuesday, October 9, 2018 in Vidant Medial Center, Greenville, NC, after a brief illness.

Lucille attended Gumberry High School. She was a devoted member of New Jerusalem Holiness Church, Garysburg, NC. She later joined St. Mary's Holiness Church, Jackson, NC and studied under the late Pastor Rosa Gary-Banks and Pastor James Gary. Lucille often shared how she was blessed during the many, many years of fellowship she enjoyed as a member of New Jerusalem and St. Mary's Churches.

Lucille was married to the late Rufus Hughes. Together they raised eight children.

Those left to cherish her precious memories are:  Eight Children:  Gregory Gary and wife Cindy of  Halifax, NC, Arthur Lee Evans of Durham, NC, Daphine Gary of Garysburg, NC, Cleo Evans of Rocky Mount, NC, Regina H. Scott and husband Randolph of Garysburg, NC, Florence Ellerbe and husband Kevin of Richmond, VA, Karen Mallory of Roanoke Rapids, NC and Sharon Hughes of Halifax. NC, Lucille was blessed to nurture Twenty Grandchildren, Twenty-six Great-Grandchildren and Two Great-Great Grandchildlren; One Sister:  Odell Fowler and husband Cleveland of Staten Island, NY, Two Half-Sisters:  Rosanella Claiborne and Lillie Ann Banks both of Garysburg, NC, and a host of nieces, nephews, church family and friends.
