It was on the morning of Tuesday, February 10, 2026 that the call was made for an eternal rest for Mr. Linwood Squire, 87 of Gaston, NC. Mr. Squire passed in his residence surrounded by loved ones. .
Born on October 7, 1938, to the late William Henry Squire and Virginia Crump Squire, Linwood was raised with strong values, steady hands, and a heart anchored in faith. At an early age, he confessed his faith at Gaston Baptist Church, where he became a faithful and devoted member. He faithfully served on the usher board for many years, welcoming others with dignity and commitment until his health began to decline.
On April 13, 1956, Linwood was united in holy matrimony to the love of his life, Inell Moody. For 69 beautiful years, their union stood as a testament to loyalty, devotion, and enduring love. He absolutely adored his family and proudly bragged about them to anyone who would listen. His family was his greatest accomplishment and his deepest joy.
A provider in every sense of the word, Linwood worked numerous jobs throughout his life to ensure his family was well cared for. His steady career began around 1971 when he was employed at DuPont in Richmond, Virginia, where he served as Supervisor of the Shipping and Receiving Department. Through dedication and strong work ethic, he built a respected career that concluded with his retirement from Brown and Root in Richmond, Virginia, in 2003. His hands were rarely idle and his commitment to responsibility never wavered.
Outside of work, Linwood loved fishing, working on cars, farming, tending a little garden, and "supervising" those around him. He had a natural gift for leading, whether invited to or not, and he found joy in helping others accomplish just about anything. If something needed fixing, planting, catching, or organizing, he was ready and willing.
He was preceded in death by his parents: William Henry Squire and Virginia Squire; his sons: Leviticus Squire and Alvin Squire; his granddaughter: Shawnique Squire; his brother: Joseph Squire; and his sister, Betty Squire Weaver.
His cherished memories will forever live on through His devoted wife of 69 years: Inell Squire of the home; His loving children: Sophia Squire of Gaston, NC, Lorenzo Squire (Clara) of Gaston, NC, David Squire (Alfreda) of Columbia, SC, and Kirtwood Squire (Betty) of Gaston, NC; His Daughters-In-Law: Hilda Squire of Gaston, NC and Laverne Squire of Los Angles, CA; His beloved grandchildren: Andre, Desmond, Todd, Marco, Shavonda, Shakiera, Keyona, Nikia, Jasmine, Leviticus Jr., Leianna, and Tanteria; His honorary grandchildren: Mark Murphy, and Sam and Janice Robinson; 26 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; His Sister-In-Law: Velvet Moody; bonus siblings: Carlton Belfield, Jr. (Shirley), Patricia Jacobs (Percy), and Rachel Davis; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
Linwood's life was one of faith, hard work, leadership, and unwavering love. Though his hands are now at rest, the legacy he built, the lessons he taught, and the family he cherished will continue to stand strong for generations to come.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
