The Life of Ms. Lee A.Sweatt-Hardy, 94

"For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith" –II Timothy 4: 6-7



Mother Lee Anner Sweatt-Hardy was born on July 25, 1919 in Weldon, North Carolina to the late Tony and Sarah (Benjamin) Sweatt.

A time to grow…
Mother Lee Hardy spent her early childhood in Weldon, North Carolina with her siblings, the fourth of sixth children, four of whom preceded her in death. As a child and growing into her adulthood, Mother Lee was eagerly involved in her church and Sunday school. Mother Lee Hardy's early education began at the Elementary and High School in Garysburg, NC, where she attended and received her form of education. Later in her life she attended Halifax Community College, and received a certificate in Child Care Assistant, where she worked with small children for several years. Her work included the Halifax Laundry and Linen Service, Home Day Care, Farm Work, and later becoming an entrepreneur with her husband by opening and operating their own shoe store in Weldon, NC.


A time to love…
Prior to finishing high school, she married Emmitt Roscoe Hardy, Sr. from Garysburg, NC, in 1940, and to this union, three children were born, Emmit, Donna, and Wiley. Mother Lee was a loving wife and an ideal homemaker, and great supporter to her entire family. In 1950 the family moved from the Wiley Long Farm, Jackson, NC to Gumberry, NC, and from there to Roanoke Rapids, NC, where the family resided for more than 60 years. The family focused on security, proper work opportunities and education for their children. Mother Lee Hardy was an avid traveler, which always brought her joy, especially when she was with her children. Her wings spreaded from North Carolina to Alaska to Hawaii, New York to New Mexico, Texas, Mexico, and Canada.

A time to serve…
In 1934, Mother Lee joined and was baptized in Roanoke Chapel Baptist Church,Jackson, NC, where she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior, and where she served diligently as an active member of the usher board, senior choir and the Mother Board. Mother Lee Hardy stayed faithful until her health begun to decline and until her death.

A time to die…
Mother Lee fought a good fight in life, finished her course and went home to be spend eternity with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Thursday, December 19, 2013 in Brooklyn, New York. Mother Hardy was preceded in death by her husband, Emmitt R. Hardy, and her daughter, Donna M. Hardy Josey. Mother Lee leaves to cherish her memories, two sons, Emmit Hardy and wife Laverne of Brooklyn, New York, and Wiley Hardy and wife Selestine of McDonough, Georgia. One sister, Mrs. Sarah Johnson and husband Mack of Jackson, NC; one sister-in law, Mrs. Lucille Hardy of Jackson, North Carolina; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. She also was preceded in death by one grandchild.

Funeral Arrangements for Ms. Lee A. Sweatt-Hardy, 94, of Hwy 158 E., Roanoke Rapids, NC will be held Saturday, December 28, 2013 at 1:00 PM at Roanoke Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, Jackson, NC. Rev., Dr. Franklin D. Williams, Jr. her Pastor will Officiate the service.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

There will be a private immediate family viewing at 12:30 PM at the funeral parlor on Friday, December 27, 2013 and a public viewing will be held from 1 to 7 PM in the chapel.

Ms. Lee is resting in the comfort of Coleman Funeral Home and Staff...Because WE Care...
