Mr. John L Coker, 77

A private viewing for immediate family ONLY will be held Friday, April 30, 2021, 2:30 PM at the funeral parlor followed by a public viewing from 3 to 6 PM. Only four people will be allowed to enter the funeral parlor at a time.  A facial covering or mask will be required due to COVID-19 for the viewing and the funeral.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, May 1, 2021, 1:00 In The Afternoon, Coleman-McGee Funeral Home Front Lawn. Rev Elton R. Buffaloe will deliver the eulogy.

Burial will follow in Roanoke Salem Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, Cornwallis Road, Garysburg, NC.

John L Coker was born on April 19, 1944 to the late Ernest & Rosa Arrington Coker in Gumberry, NC. He departed this life on Friday, April 23, 2021 in Duke University Hospital, Durham, NC.

John L attended school in Northampton County, NC. At a young age he moved his residency to New Jersey where he became a truck driver for Petro Roseland Oil Company and Papetti Products, where he eventually retired.

John L was a fun and loving person. His favorite hobbies were fishing and listening to music. John L loved his family and friends dearly and enjoyed spending quality time with all of them.

John L was proceeded in death by both wives (Margaret Coker and Phyllis Underwood) and three sisters (Rosa Mae McGowan, Irene Spivey and Virginia Davis.

John L is survived by;  three daughters: G. Michelle Futrell and husband Stacy, Ahoski, NC, Tracey Goodwyn and husband Martin and Tamara Coker all of Montclair NJ, Ten Grandchildren and Six Great-Grandchildren, One Aunt: Sue Buffaloe, Gumberry, NC. A special friend: Tommy Rose, a host of nieces and nephews and other relatives.
