The Life of James Lewis Smith
James L. Smith entered into his eternal rest at John Muir Medical Center, Concord, CA on May 12, 2010. He was born and reared in Plymouth, NC by his parents Acie and Annie Bell Smith. Both are deceased and his brother: Thomas Harrell, his nephew Donald Leary and a great nephew, Antron Chesson. He attended Bertie Co. Schools and attended Durham College, Durham, NC.
He joined the US Army in 1975 and served his country honorably for two years. He was awarded the expert rifleman honor and served in an overseas assignment in Korea. He resided in Sacramento, CA where he was employed by the State of California as a Correctional Officer unti his health began to fail.
He leaves th cherish him memory: two daughters: Anitra Renee Smith, Roanoke Rapids, NC and Jasmine Smith of Sacramento, CA; two grandsons: Jalen Owens and DaRaj Watson both of Roanoke Rapids, NC and one nniece Valerie Young (Kenny), great nieces and nephews: Keisara Young, Aaliyah Young, Travon Leary, Michael Stowe and Mica James. Seven Aunts: Lettie L. Pittman (Roy, Sr.), Mable Swain both of Plymouth, NC, Addie Winborne, Martha Watson, Mary Speller, Clara Louise Swain all of Windsor, NC and Lena Swain of Atlantic City, NJ; two Uncles: Robert Swain of Atlantic City, NJ and Joe Willie Swain (Delores of South Carolina and a host of family and friends.
He was also a active member of Calvary Christian Center-Pastor Phillip Goudeaux, Sacramento, CA where he served as an usher and choir member.
Graveside Services will be held May 2010 in the Phipps Family Cemetery, Littleton, NC with Rev. Stafford Boyd officiating.
