Forever In Our Hearts...The Life of HERBERT DAVIS, 90

There will be a private viewing Friday, May 17, 2024, 2:30 PM, at the funeral parlor for the wife ONLY.

Mr. Davis will  lie in state at 11:00 AM, Saturday, May 18, 2024 at New Jerusalem Holiness Church of the Apostolic Faith, Hwy 186, Garysburg, NC

Funeral Services will be 12:00 High Noon, Saturday, May  18, 2024, New Jerusalem Holiness Church of the Apostolic Faith, Hwy 186, Garysburg, NC with Pastor Alice J. Brown delivering the eulogy, Elder Clyde Parker  serving as the Pulpit Conductor and Minister Betty Parker-Kee  the organist

Burial will be Monday, May 20, 2024, Clark United Methodist Church Cemetery, Sumter, SC

Herbert Davis was born April 29, 1934 in Sumter South Carolina to James and Sarah James Davis.

Herbert was the oldest of seven siblings. Herbert grew up in Sumter and attended the segregated schools. He graduated from Lincoln High in 1953. In 1954 Herbert enlisted in the United States Army where he served for 2 years (post Korean War Veteran). He was stationed out of Fort Knox, Kentucky and performed his military service in France.

Herbert often times worked two jobs to provide for his family. He held jobs preretirement at Youngs Market, Pepsi Cola Company, Kentile Company, A&P Warehouse, A&P Supermarket, US Postal Service and the New York City Transit Authority.

Herbert was blessed to find love a second time when he met Lois Knight in Brooklyn, NY. Herbert and Lois were married on October 28, 1996. Shortly after marriage, they moved south and made Garysburg, North Carolina their home. The pair enjoyed the company of one another and southern living. As Herbert's health began to decline, Lois remained steadfast to him and the Word of the Lord and took great care and concern over his well being until his last breath.

Those preceded him in death are: His parents: James & Sarah James-Davis; His Siblings: Sarah and Eugene and His first wife: Waltene.

Survivors include: His Wife of the home: Lois Knight-Davis, His Children from the first marriage: Beatrice R. Davis-Thomas and husband Lamar (deceased), Brenda A. Davis-Smith and husband Mark, Pyron Davis and wife Sherry and Rosalind N. Davis-Williams and husband Lawrence (deceased); His Grandchildren: Cortne D Thomas and wife , Brandon L. Davis and Sherron L. Davis ; His Great-Grandchildren: Nova D. Thomas and Kai G. Thomas; His Step-Daughter: Angela Williams and husband Kenneth; a Step-Grand daughter: Faith Williams; His Siblings: Laura, Annie-Mae, Solomon and Linda; He was also a beloved uncle to a host of nieces, nephews; He leaves lots of other cousins and friends.

Our hearts are full of love and gratitude to all of you, your prayers, words of consolation, flowers and many kind acts both seen and unseen have sustained us throughout the passing of our beloved Herbie. We thank God for friends like you. May God make us worthy of the love, kindness and trust.
