Helen Rose Garner Hawkins, 80, of Weldon, North Carolina, was born on June 16, 1941 to the late Ollie Webb Wade and Authur Garner in Gaston, NC.
During her early life, she professed faith in Christ, was baptized and joined True Way Church of Christ, Scoco Park in Weldon, NC. Helen attended Refuge Church, Olney, MD under the leadership of former Bishop Rufus Settles, now Pastor Orlando Edwards until her illness prevented her attendance.
She received her education from the Halifax County Public Schools and shortly after, started a family. She was united in Holy Matrimony to Eddie Lee Hawkins and to this union, they conceived five children. She was affectionately called "Mama". She worked for Weldon Public Schools from 1968 to 1975 and was one of the youngest to retire from that school system.
Helen life's joy was that she could dedicate time to rearing her children; she enjoyed hours of playing volleyball, kickball, and softball with them as children. Later in life she became a self-proclaimed "shopaholic" each and every Wednesday she would take a trip to Rose's Department Store. Flashy, she was. Lucky also. She developed an interest in Casino's and slot machines. In her spare time she would take trips to Casino's to try her luck.
Helen peacefully departed this earthly life on Sunday, October 17, 2021 at 7:30 am for eternal rest in Silver Spring, Maryland surrounded by her family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sons: Milton Hawkins and Alexander Hawkins Sr. her Siblings: Waverly, Percy, Alton, Robert, Lee, Dorothy, Mildred, Oaciebee, and Scrap, and grandson: Darius Ford.
