Mother Hattie Mae Vick Davis, 89

A private viewing for immediate family ONLY will be held Sunday, December 4, 2022, 2:30 PM at the funeral parlor, followed by a public viewing from 3 to 6 PM.

Mother Davis will lie in state at the church one hour prior to funeral services.

Funeral Services will be Monday, December 5, 2022, 11:00 In The Morning, Roanoke Chapel Missionary Baptist Church-Mudcastle, Garysburg, NC. Rev. Edna Moody will be the eulogist. Burial will follow in Roanoke Salem Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, Garysburg, NC.

Hattie Mae Vick Davis, age 89, died peacefully on November 30, 2022, at the Bryan Health and Rehabilitation Center, Scotland Neck, North Carolina. Hattie was born on February 9, 1933, to the late Lonnie Sr. and Harriett Vick in Northampton County, Jackson, North Carolina. She was joined in holy matrimony with the love of her life, the late Stanley Davis, Sr.; a union which yielded six children.

She was educated in the Northampton County School System at the Northampton County Training School which was later known as Gumberry High School. She worked over 33 years at the Garysburg Elementary School where she ended her career as the Cafeteria Supervisor retiring early to take care of her husband, the late Stanley Davis, Sr, whose health was failing. Many teachers and students have such fond memories of Mrs. Davis as she and her lunchroom staff served delicious, nutritious meals with smiles and warm hearts. She also had an incredible gift of sewing and tailoring and made numerous delicious pies, cakes, Jewish "challah" bread and other delectable dishes for many people in her beloved community of Garysburg, NC and beyond. She became an active member of the Roanoke Chapel Missionary Baptist Church where she served faithfully and tirelessly for over 70 years including serving on the Deaconess Board.

Mrs. Davis is preceded in death by her husband: Stanley Davis, Sr.; her parents: Lonnie Sr. and Harriett Vick; a son: Gregory. B. Davis; four brothers: Jesse Wilkins, Robert Wilkins, Clenton Vick and Larry Vick and three sisters: Jean Vick, Phyllis Perry, and Deci Hill.

She is survived by five children: Stanley Davis, Jr. of Asheboro, NC; Brenda D. Bracey of Garysburg, NC; Dr. Maurice and wife Valencia Davis of Roanoke Rapids, NC; Gwendolyn Hendricks and husband Dr. Michael of Burlington, Iowa; and Edna Davis-Brown and husband James of Silver Spring, MD. She also cherishes the memory of eight grandchildren: Kimberly Bracey, Heather Hendricks, Tiffany Hendricks, Briana Che, Brooke Davis, Hannah Hendricks, Valyce Woolaston, and Harrison Davis. Three great grandchildren; Two sisters: Culey "Vickie" Kilimanjaro of Greensboro, NC; Edna Dukes and husband John of Baltimore, MD and one brother: Lonnie Vick, Jr. and wife Carrie Elizabeth of Abingdon, MD.  Along with a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and church families.

She is also survived by her "children at heart": Rudolph Whitaker of Montclair, NJ; Rodney Martin of Pleasant Hill, NC; H.B. Moore of Whiteville, NC; Carolyn Lassiter of Seaboard, NC; and Shirley Best of Garysburg, NC.
