The Life Well Lived for Mr. Grant Terry, Jr., 65

"A precious limb has fallen from the family tree."

With great sorry, but by the sovereign will of Almighty God, on Sunday, August 6. 2017 our brother, uncle, cousin, and friend, while in solitude, (which was always his preference) made his transition from his earthly tabernacle, undoubtedly repeating the night before the prayer that we were taught, "now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord my soul to keep…I pray to the Lord my soul to take".

Grant Terry, Jr. was born on May 27, 1952 on Route 1317, Pleasant Hill, North Carolina to the late Grant and Jean Terry. As a youth he attended Coates Elementary School and Garysburg Elementary and graduated from Gumberry High School in 1972, enlisted in the army and later attended Kansas State College.

Grant lived in New York for about 10 years working in the printing industry before returning home with his grandparents who raised him and remained there with them until their death. However, he always went to visit his mother and niece Lynette, while there he would eat a stack of six sandwiches, drink a jug of water or juice. Generally Grant would be in Virginia for about a week and then "Motor" would make his way back home to Mamafield and Eddie Paw.

His favorite pastime was riding a bike, telling jokes, playing softball, basketball and especially reading: comics, newspaper, dictionary, and the Bible. He debated who knew more history. Like all children in the south, loved fishing, or "dabbling" in the water as his grandparents called it.

While in NY he accepted the Lord and was baptized in Jesus name at Mt. Zion Church in Brooklyn, New York. Grant attended church in Weldon under the ministry of Bishop Curtis Ransom, where he would sing at every opportunity.

A precious limb has fallen from the family tree. Your siblings and Cynthia will miss you, but you have no more pain … smart, with a great vocabulary from all that reading, strong, handsome, vibrant man who looked for an opportunity to read, fish, laugh and then slip away, in his own way. (Thanks Kahmiyah)
