At an early age, Emma Lee joined Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church, Seaboard, North Carolina and remained a faithful member until her health failed.
Emma Lee was married to the late MacCallie Newsome.
Because she had to care for family and work, Emma had to put her education on the backburner, but spent many nights teaching her late husband, MaCallie Newsome to read. Many yeas later, Emma Lee attended Old Jonesboro School Night School, and received her GED.
"Emma Lee" as she was fondly called by all, touched the hearts and minds of many people; especially those
that she opened her home to--being a mother to many. Emma loved to cook and found it a joy to entertain family and friends with a hot plate.
Emma Lee found employment with Howard Johnson Hotels. It was told that many would ride for miles to consume one of her tasty dishes.
In addition to her parents, Emma Lee was preceded in death by her husband: MacCallie Newsome; One daughter: Margaret Purnell; Five Sisters: Ruth Daniels, Catherine Jordon, Clarine Newsome, Lizzie Edwards, and Eunice Warren; Two Brothers: Otis Johnson and Robert Johnson and a Grandson: Derrick L.
