The Life of Dr.Katherine Owens Beckett,DD 73
Apostle Katherine Lee Beckett was born in Pleasant Hill, North Carolina on March 18th, 1944 to the late Sania and Gracie Owens. She accepted the Lord as her personal Savior and was baptized at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Garysburg, North Carolina in 1958. Katherine entered into eternal rest on Thursday - May 18th, 2017 in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina. She was a devoted Wife, Mother, Sister, Aunt, Friend, Apostle and Woman of God.
Katherine attended public schools in North Carolina and was nicknamed/known by Family and friends throughout her life as "Dollbaby." She graduated from Gumberry High School as a member of the School's Honor Society in June 1963. Shortly after graduation, she moved to Montclair, New Jersey and was united in Holy Matrimony to Richard A. Beckett on August 1st, 1964. From this union two daughters {Belinda & Vanessa} were born.
Katherine continued her education and obtained a Degree in Business Management and Recordkeeping at Rutger's University in Newark, New Jersey. In June 1989, she was licensed to preach the Gospel and was ordained on February 24th, 1991. In July 1991 she began teaching from a book the Lord blessed her to write - "Knowing God Through His Word" and shortly thereafter, she founded and began Pastoring "Evangelistic Outreach Center, Inc" in Allentown, PA. Having a deeper desire to further her knowledge in the Word of God, she attended Everlasting Life Ministries Bible College, where in 1993 she had the honor of being the Dean of the extended campus in Allentown, PA. She also received a Degree in Theology from Jehovah Jireh Bible College in Philadelphia, PA and earned her Docturate Degree graduating "Doctor of Divinity Honoris Causu" from Shiloh Theological Seminary in Stafford, Virginia on May 2nd, 1998. She has taught several Biblical, Religious and Theological Classes throughout her tenure and life.
Katherine loved spending time with her Husband, her 2 Daughters, her Doggie-Daughter Cocoa and her Grand-Dog/Namesake Dollbaby. She also enjoyed spending time with her extended family, friends, singing, writing, talking on the phone and attending Church. She was saved, blessed, annointed, sanctified and loved God. She was a very loving, sharing spirit, with a heart of gold and was loved by many. She was also a very admirable, dedicated and proud Foster Parent of over 120 children throughout the years and maintained a close relation/mothership with several of them to the day God called her home from her labor to his reward.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving Husband of 53-years Deacon Richard A. Beckett and Doggie-Daughter Cocoa of the home; Daughter Vanessa L. Beckett, Friend Clifton Edmonds and Grand-Dog Dollbaby of Lawrenceville, VA; her Brother Sania Owens and Sister Mariah Simpson of Allentown, PA; Sisters-In-Law: Carrie Rose of South Carolina, Ann McKenzie, Catherine Beckett, Jammia Beckett, and Thelma Brown and Husband Jeff, all of New Jersey; and a host of relatives, dear friends, foster children, nieces, nephews, church family and clergy family.
She is preceded in death by her Parents Sania and Gracie Owens, as well as, her Siblings Martha Louise Drew, Eddie Owens, Virginia Kee and her Daughter Belinda K. Beckett.
There will be a private viewing for immediate family Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at 12:30 PM at the funeral parlor, followed by a public viewing from 1 to 6 PM.
Funeral Services will be Thursday, May 25, 2017, 12:00 O'Clock High Noon, Community Church of Christ #2, 2434 Hwy 48, Roanoke Rapids, NC 27870.
