Mrs. Dorothy Mae Underdue Batchelor, 83 of 191 Aspen Circle, Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, departed this life on Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at Halifax Regional Medical Center, Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina.
Dorothy Mae Underdue Batchelor was born on September 6, 1930 to the late Sandy and Irene Savage-Underdue in Halifax County, North Carolina.
She attended school in Northampton County, North Carolina. She was united in Holy Matrimony on January 28, 1952 to James Batchelor and from this union six children were born; Haywood, Ronnie, Malinda, Allen, Patricia and James.
Dorothy grew up in the Occoneechee Neck Community in Northampton County, NC.
Dorothy accepted Christ at an early age and attended Roanoke Chapel Missionary Baptist Church and later attended Twilight Missionary Baptist Church.
Dorothy was an extremely independent and hard working woman. She always worked outside the home. In her early years, she worked for several prominent families in Weldon, North Carolina. She also worked at J.P. Stevens and later retired from W.R. Grace and Co.
She was truly dedicated to raising her family and believed in helping others who were in need. Dorothy was a pillar of strength right to the very end.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James and a son Haywood Batchelor; also, her sister: Catherine Peebles and two brothers Sandy Lee Underdue and Square Underdue.
Those left to cherish her memories are her children: Ronnie Batchelor and wife Gwendolyn of Rocky Mt, NC, Malinda B. Handsome of Roanoke Rapids, NC, Allen T. Batchelor and wife Fannie of Orlando, Florida, Patricia B. Nicholson and husband William of Roanoke Rapids, NC and James Gregory Batchelor and wife Leyetta of Halifax, NC; Haywood Batchelor (deceased), a Daughter-In-Law: Penny, nine grandchildren and seven great- grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Special thanks to caregivers: Sheila McDaniels-Scott, Kiva Newell, Shirley Squire, Linda Watson, Tanice Sledge-Alston, Whitney Moody and Lisa Hawkins Boyd.
She was the Best Mother anyone could ever hope for. She will be truly missed but never forgotten.
Funeral Services for Ms. Dorothy will be held Monday, August 18th 2014, 1:00 In The Afternoon at Twilight Missionary Baptist Church, Weldon, NC. Rev. W. C. Underdue will deliver the Eulogy and Rev. Danny Jones is Pastor.
A private immediate family viewing will be held Sunday, August 17th at 12:30 p.m. at the funeral parlor, followed by a public viewing from 1 to 6 p.m.
Ms. Dorothy's remains will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the funeral on Monday.
The funeral cortege will depart from Ms. Dorothy's residence at 12:30 p.m. on Monday headed to the church. All family members please be at her house at 12:00 High Noon.
