A private viewing will be held for immediate family ONLY on Friday, September 21, 2018, 12:30 PM, public viewing 1 to 6 PM at the funeral parlor
Funeral Services, Saturday, September 22, 2018, 12:00 O'Clock High Noon, Chapel Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Garysburg, NC, Rev. Gloria Harrell-Hellar will be the eulogist.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Floral Attendants and Pall Attendants will be classmates and friends.
DAVID V. HOLMES, 47, son of Lawrence and Elnora Holmes Richardson, was born March 26, 1971 in Newark, NJ.
He was baptized at an early age and then became a member of Chapel Grove Baptist Church, Garysburg, NC.
He received his formal education at Gumberry High School, a graduate of the Class of 1990.
David also worked with Halifax County Animal Control for years, know as the "Dog Man". He always took pride in any job he worked. Working security part time for Virginia School System was a love of his.
At the time of his illness, he was employed with Riverside Regional Jail, Prince George, VA, and retired from Virginia Department of Corrections in 2017.
David was a very well known for his smile. He was a thoughtful and giving person, loved to have fun, eat and make people laugh. "David was a tough ONE...A real FIGHTER"
Peacefully, David transitioned into eternal rest on Saturday, September 15, 2018 at Southside Regional Medical Center, Petersburg, VA.
Those remaining to cherish his memories are: Two Daughters: Tekia D. Holmes, Raleigh, NC and Madison V. Holmes, Petersburg, VA; Two Sons: Tyrese D. Holmes and Jordan I. Holmes both of Roanoke Rapids, NC; His Mother: Elnora Holmes-Richardson of Garysburg, NC; A Sister: Rotonya Y. Holmes, Roanoke Rapids, NC, Three Brothers: Rashawn S. Holmes and wife Tamyka, Garysburg, NC, Kevin "Rock" Holmes, Allendale, SC and Traqez Holmes, Baldwin, SC; A Nephew: Antwain Rawls, Memphis TN; Two Nieces: Rickelia "KeKe" Rawls, Roanoke Rapids, NC and D'Asia Garner, Raleigh, NC; Two Stepbrothers: Joseph Richardson, Jr. and wife Terry and Gregory "Greg" Richardson; Special Brothers: Willie Jr. Ransom, Derrous Ransom, Kirby Ransom and Shawn "Duck" Ransom; Five Uncles: Wilson, Joseph, Willma and Turner Lee Holmes all of SC and Ernest Dukes, Raleigh, NC; Five Aunts: Mary L. Holmes, Pearlie M. Due to hurrican Florence, our family members in South Carolina will not be able to be here today. David is now rejoined with his father and other loved one gone before...may you rest in peace and have a blessed reunion.
