The Life and Legacy of Mr. Boatman Garris, Jr.

Funeral Services for Mr. Boatman Garris, Jr. 92 will be held
Monday, July 23, 2018, 1:00 O'Clock In The Afternoon
Chapel Grove Missionary Baptist Church
307 Railroad St., Garysburg, NC  27831

Rev. Elbert Lee, Pulpit Conductor and Rev. Nepoleon Bobbit, Eulogist.

Burial will follow in the Garris Family Memorial Cemetery


Family and friends are meeting at the home place off 301 in Garysburg, NC.

Boatman Garris, Jr., peacefully departed this life July 13, 2018.
Affectionately known as "Doc" to his many family and friends, he was
born April 15, 1926 to the late Boatman Garris, Sr. and Estella Garris in
Garysburg, NC.

Doc is predeceased by one brother: Robert Garris and
three sisters: Dozine Vinson, Katheryn Porch and Selma Smith.
He served valiantly in the United States Army during World War II, where he received the "Victory Medal".
In the early 1950's moved to New York City where he became a lifelong
resident.

On June 30, 1953, he married the love of his life, Mazie.
The couple's blessed union spanned an amazing 65 years. Boatman was
employed for many years as a long distance truck driver. Among some of
the activities that gave him the greatest joy included hunting, fishing,
rooting for his favorite baseball team, spending time with his
grandchildren and telling stories with an amusing comical flair as only he
could. He was a warm and engaging person who loved to laugh and left
lasting impressions on everyone he encountered.

Left to mourn his passing is his devoted wife: Mazie Garris; two sons: Marty
Garris (NY) and Ronald Jackson (NC);  four grandchildren:Jessica Green (NY), Asia Garris (NY),
Ronald Jackson II (NC),Christopher Jackson (LA); a beloved sister:  Mildred Bell (NC), special nieces and nephews Marcella Elliot (FL),
Joan Vinson (NC), Essie Edwards (VA), Annette Garris (NY), Millie Smith
(NY), Douglas Garris (NY), Jounie Smith (NY), Elijah Vinson (NY) and a host
of extended family and friends.
