Funeral Services will be held Thursday, July 5, 2018, 12:00 O'Clock High Noon, Roy L. Gilmore Funeral Home, 191-02 Linden Blvd., St. Albans, NY. Final resting place will be Monday, July 9, 2018 in Garysburg, North Carolina.
It was early Sunday morning July 1, 2018 that our beloved Bernice Tucker peacefully departed this life. She was born on February 22, 1945 in Portsmouth, Virginia, to the late James Lawrence Tucker and Rachel Demiel Tucker. She was the second born of six children.After graduating from IC Norcom High School 2009, in Portsmouth, Virginia in 1962, she moved to New York where she worked in accounting at Mount Sinai Hospital. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business from York College followed by a Master of Arts degree in Political Science and Urban Planning from Brooklyn College. In 2009, Bernice retired as a real property manager with the City of New York Housing Preservation Development after 21 years of service. She was a member of the Greater Allen A.M.E. Cathedral. She joined and was actively involved with the cancer support ministry in 1994, making her the longest surviving member of its ministry. Bernice was actively involved with the Rochdale Senior Community Center and numerous local community activities.
Her warm personality endeared her to many. She loved music, politics, golf, chess, travel, reading and theater. She was preceded in death by her brother Clinton and her sister Mildred.
Survivors include One Aunt: Helen Marie Demiel Williams of Suffolk, Virginia; One Brother: Mr. James L. Tucker , Jr. of Portsmouth, Virginia; Two Sisters: Mrs. Irma J. Archie (Larry) of Portsmouth, Virginia and Ms. Almeda Tucker-Newsome (Chris) of Gaston, North Carolina; one nephew: Tobias Council (Tucker), Six Nieces, Cookie Outland, Tina Archie, Dana Archie, Malissa Archie and Rachel Person(Sebastian) and Angela N. Patterson ; a host of great-nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
